Picked up this 1995 JF-30 today...It is flawless...Only blemish is in last photo on left upper bout...Neck is straight and has proper relief, angle is spot, action is 6/64 and saddle has plenty left...Just needs new strings and perhaps a strap button...Thanks to Richard P for helping me by answering questions, Chazmo for the encouragement (not really needed), and Hans for verifying year and factory...
Dave
p.s. This is now my third Guild, and I blame Richard for getting me hooked...

Mine’s a ‘94, and like yours, came to me in spot-on structural condition. Westerly was sure doing things right during that era. Congrats & Enjoy!

Seeing the photos of 3C4S's jf-30 makes me wonder if there was a compelling reason for the domestically produced model having a brown-patterned pickguard, while my made in China GAD jf-30 has a clear, transparent virtually invisible one.
Anyone?

That is definitely one of the nicest JF-30s I've ever laid eyes on, 3C4S. Congrats!!!!!!!!!

Happy NGD! I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment, that is gorgeous, and probably sounds even better than it looks! Congratulations 🎉

Well for one thing, those tortoise 'guards were actually finished over until about '97/'98 when they started using stick-ons.
The GAD's didn't even appear until '03 and suspect it (the clear guard) was simply to help distinguish their visual identity. And cheaper than tortoise.

adorshki,
Your answer confirms what I suspected.
I'm ambivalent about the look of the "invisible" pickguard, and have considered replacing it.
But it does the job and swapping it out is an expense without any sound improvement benefit, and so I'll probably just leave well enough alone.

All,

Thanks for positive feed back. It's always fun getting a new toy...Have a few follow up questions..
(1) I generally prefer silver tuners. If i swap out the gold grovers, what would you recommend? Same grovers but in silver might be easiest answer, but thought I would see what others thought...
(2) Same question for strings...needs new ones and what is recommended?...I generally prefer lighter strings, but with jumbo body it may behoove me to get at least 12's...

I also understand I may be in for several opinions...

Dave
