Not for vegetarians.

How much do you rely on these two foods source, daily?

I've just been asked to make Chicken Soup, again, this would be the third in a short time, as I did it twice while very recently having Covid.

And eggs, daily either for early breakfast (when I'm alone) or for Elevensies when wife makes oatmeal 1st thing in the morning, we have cheesy eggs (and Ham, another survival staple) on toast around 11 daily, no complaints. It's a massive McMuffin like protein puck, makes you feel good and able to work for quite a while.

But without the eggs, what would it be?

It's near impossible to imagine life without eggs, and chicken.

Other survival staples include milk, some raw, with which I make 4 quarts of yogurt at a time, flour, butter, coffee, sugar.

Vegetable and a lot of squash we grew and have a cellarful of, apples from orchard and walnuts/hazelnuts from well established trees.

Darn near silly not to be raising our own eggs and chickens, but the cost of buying/trading for them is probably less than the actual cost, as I trade mechanic labor for eggs year around, chickens I buy at store, free range, antibiotic free, etc.

If you ever get to thinking cooking is a drag, remember to be thankful for having a kitchen, food to cook, and that fast food is easily over $10 per person now, and it totally sucks flavorwise, tasteless or gross, and it's loaded with the worst of anything you can put in food.

I have chickens so eggs are everywhere but survival food would, in my opinion, depend upon your circumstances.

Have a look at the tv series ‘Alone’.

I don't mean survival during some apocalypse, as if this wasn't close enough, I mean just day to day, year in year out. Chicken, and eggs. Eggs, then chicken. It is the most reliable and tasty source of protein I can imagine. We do have ample source of wild turkeys should the stores run out of food.

Ahh well eggs for sure.
And silverbeet. I was give a couple of plants and let one go to seed and now it seems I have a permanent supply.
And of course mushrooms 🙂

I never ate them, but cigarettes are a survival staple of mine. And then of course Champagne - Napoleon is quoted with having said: "I drink Champagne when I win because I deserve it, and I also drink it when I lose because I need it".

We had uncommon luck with mushrooms this year, more than we could eat.

They are very peculiar indeed, and indeed a meat replacement.

We do need our survival substances, methods of uplifting the spirit, how high is the question? ;[]

Chicken is something I eat at least 2-3 days a week. Eggs I go though phases with. At times daily for weeks on end. Then no eggs for months at a time. One of my favorite meals is....a typical breakfast of eggs-potatoes-ham/sausage/bacon....but for dinner!! (y) ;) (It's perfect for a quick meal for 1...as opposed to most (non preprepared) meals where ingredients are typically packaged for a family meal and you wind up eating it for 2-3 days in a row.

If I had to chose from poultry, pork, beef, and seafood, and can only ever have one of them from here on out, it would be a tough toss up between seafood and pork. And likely go w/ seafood.

I won't eat eggs unless they are mixed into something like a cake and I can't see or taste them. I don't even like eggs in friend rice. They gross me out totally, and always have.

We eat chicken a couple times a week, all different ways. I made chicken parmigiana Monday night.

I wouldn't brag about that if I were you. At some point, your body is going to say "Enough." By then, it may be too late.

Excuse me, but one of my best friends is dying of Stage 4 lung cancer. He smoked for over forty years.

And it killed one of my oldest friends (met him 62 years ago) about two months ago.
There is no upside to ciggarette smoking.

I eat eggs and chicken each probably 3-4 times a week. I know several
people who have raise chicks but gave up after a few years. It is work.

For survival food just store a variety of freeze dried #10 cans. Rotate them after 10-15 years. You will hopefully never need them for anything but short-term emergencies.
