Joni performs her newly recorded but yet unreleased first album in its entirety at Mama Cass's 1968 picnic in Laurel Canyon. Fellow, guest, Eric Clapton, has his mind blown--open tunings, unusual chords--and can't take his eyes off her fingers.

I was fortunate enough to wander into town a few years ago when a large selection of photographs by Diltz were on display at a local community college. He really captured the times.

Classic photo! Is that an all maple guitar behind Clapton?

walrus
Maple sides, yes, and definitely a flat top from the neck set. Could be a Guild. Could be the Gretsch Rancher that's on the inside of the Layla cover too.

I hope that's a pick on top of it, and not a cigarette burn.

Those Laurel Canyon days must have been amazing! To be a fly on the wall as all this great music was being made and played. A musical community of sorts with all the musical interactions that go along with it.

No, quite familiar. Probably the first Guild I was aware of. The Rancher you show is a modern one. The one I was talking about is the one on the left side

Was just joking, but that Rancher has a stained top, unlike the axe at Mama Cass's picnic. ;)

Hard to tell from a B/W photograph. It's probably the Guild, but I wouldn't swear to it.

It's the (a) Guild. See the end of the headstock for the notches around the "crown" which Gretsches don't have. (The notches) ;)
I was talking about the first photo, but whatever
