Don't know about you folks but I have this little wooden box I throw things in to , such as various flat picks, thumb picks etc....(catch all) I have been playing Red Bear flat picks for a few years now and for the past couple years their "D-Med", while riffling through my box I found an "A-Light", ya know it wasn't untin I played them side by side what a difference there is!! The "light" being more bright and bringing out the single notes better and the "Medium" more mellow and round sounding...........Mabey I should get a "Pulitzer Prize" for this? anyway, what fun!!

Picks have more to do with the sound you get from your guitar than anything else, except maybe the picker.

Picks....

I like the sound of thick vinyl over thick celluloid. I find the vinyl has a little "drag" to it and gives each string a little more individuality.

But, I also take every pick and use a fine nail sink thingamabob and hammer a heavy emboss pattern into the top of it so I can hold them better. I ALWAYS drop picks....in fact, my tombstone is already engraved with "Here lies AC...a pickdropper if there ever was one"

Picks, strings, wood, bone, ivory, pickups, straps, american, chinese, japanese...

Brunettes, blondes, redheads....

Curley, Shemp, Joe Besser....

Ginger, Marianne, Mrs. Howell...

And so it goes...

I did an indepth, unbiased, purely scientific study using my own guitar and my own ears. I tested several different types of flat picks including Dunlops, Fenders, brass, silver, ebony, ivory, Tortex, and Brain Picks. The nylon picks 1.0 mm (Dunlops and Brain/Cats Tongue) produced the brightest and loudest sound, by quite a margin. There ya have it.

OK, you can pick your friends and you can pick your guitar, but you need to pick a pick that works for you and you alone, no matter which pick your friends pick.

With that in mind, I have used two kinds of picks for many years and these two work quite well for me.

Clayton Acetal, .63 mm/rounded triangle.
Fender 346, medium/rounded triangle.

I fingerpick sans manmade picks; i.e., I use my thumb and two well-manicured nails.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Careful. If you go to deep, you'll lose the plug for your brains.
