Not me - especially not We will Rock You or We Are The Champions. Ugh! The one Queen song I truly enjoy is Crazy Little Thing Called Love. They can use that one as much as they want, and it’ll make me smile every time!

I don't know, I'm still not convinced of the massive buyouts being worth the price. If you look at a list of all the dozens and dozens of artists that have already sold their catelog, some even 10-15+ years ago, one would have expected a flood of it's use in everything from tv, film, advertising, etc. I just haven't seen/heard it. Seems it's just a handful of entities buying all these catalogs, and at those prices, I honestly can't see any of it breaking into a profit in the next 100 years! Not unless they land 2-3 Super Bowl commercials a year! These artists are getting a bigger lump sum payday than their catelog has ever earned to date, and the business of selling music is at it's lowest in 60 years! Add to that, recently updated UK/EU copyright laws which make their music public domain as each recording reaches 50 years old (which is ridiculously unfair!!)

If I were a recording artist from the 60's/70's.....you couldn't get me to sell fast enough. They'll never see even 10% of that kind of money from their catelog in the remainder of their lifetime. Might as well enjoy it, and divideit among family and see them enjoy it while you are still alive!

^ Queen are a worldwide top 5 all time selling band (absolutely top 3 outside of the US!). A very solid 20 song best of collection w/ a handful of timeless anthems that are bonafide household anthems that almost no other bands can top. Still, just given the nature of today’s music business (or lack thereof) and especially w/ rock music in general currently being a bottom feeder, I just don’t see the logic in paying any more than 100 mil for ANY of these catalogs! Not Bruce, not Dylan, no one!

I'm also with Midnight Toker.

If I had a catalog like that, and the music business being what it is today, which for artists is almost as unpredictable and unprofitable as it is untenable, then I would probably sell it as well. I would rather leave my posterity a big fat chunk to invest in something more stable than leave them having to guard publishing rights like a watch dog amidst the wolves.

So much less stressful.

I can't comment on the financials, but to me, the Queen catalog is worth more than Dylan or Springsteen. Queen still has the potentail to get more massively popular than they ever have been. And their catalouge seems much more suited to movies and such. They have Bohemian, and just one more Wayne's World movie could be a huge payday for just that one song. They have the soundtrack to Flash Gordon and piles of albums and songs, that a lot of genuine but somewhat casual fans are totally unfamilliar with. If there is ever a Live Aid movie, Queen would be the main band to be premiered. plus the video game industry is huge, again not an expert there, but this is a big, big business. With all that said 1.2 bizzillions does sound high, and the band would have never made that on their own as they are on the other side of the industry. But I have to imagine the big wigs and suits know more about the licensing value of that catalouge than the musicians do, and are a lot more willing to do the work. seems like a win win. no real risk for the band. just money management now.

Indeed. Between Another One Bites The Dust, We Will Rock You, and We Are The Champions alone, they have iconic anthems suited for any occasion in professional sports.

When We Are The Champions came out, my Washington Bullets were the first team to get to use the song in celebration. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
