Hello, intrepid Guild gurus!

I love my '76 D-35, but pub gig money has been adding up lately, and I'm thinking it wouldn't hurt to also have a rosewood Guild in my guitarsenal.

There's an early nineties Westerly-made D-50 I'm considering. Questions:

- Is it union-made?

- Is it as well-build as earlier versions?

- How does the sound compare to D-50s and D-55s of other eras?

- What's a reasonable price range for a good-condition player?

Thanks!

Hmm... Union-made... Interesting question, Charlie. Don't know.

You might enjoy a rosewood Guild. I would also encourage you to think beyond the dreadnought shape, but of course D-50 and D-55 models are really wonderful. My personal favorite is an F-50R, but of the two Ds, I prefer the D-50.

I know they were back in the sixties and seventies. Don't know how long it lasted. Maybe someone will.

That's my theory!

An F-50R is certainly a contender. Never had a jumbo. They look like fun.

There's a new D-50 out now. Looks like a good guitar, but the satin finish doesn't appeal to me.

I think you're talking about the recent D-50 Standard. Unfortunately, they're not offering it (yet) in the Pacific sunset sunburst... I mean, I like the antique sunburst, but I love the sunset 'burst...

Anyway, Charlie, good luck.

Cough... F-50R... Cough, cough...
