Mose Dreds are built to hold up to medium strings but that doesn't mean that you have to use mediums on one.
If you are getting everything that you need from light strings, there is no reason to use anything else.
I play at a weekly jam where there are 6 or more guitars a few mandolins and a banjo or two.
I need medium gauge strings to keep up.
Another good reason to use lights is the lower stress that they put on a guitar.

Thank you for all of your imput. I will definately give some of the strings a try.

Question still puzzling me is guitar size. I was under the impression that the larger guitars, D and jumbo might need a heavier string to get the volume and tone out of the larger area top.

I am speaking striclly acoousicly (unplugged).

Volume doesn't seem to be a problem with Guilds, unless it's too loud. I get plenty-O-volume with lights.

Another vote for John Pearse PB lights, they seem to fit my F50R the best of any.

I've tried Elixir PBs in both light and medium; also D'addario PBs both light and medium and keep going back to the JPs.

YMMV,

Jeff

Bobby - I had the same experience with JP's, they died a horribly quick death.

I definitely use mediums mainly for the volume. Most of my playing is done acoustically with group singing so I need the volume, but I also find the tone rings sweeter with mediums.

For the last few months, I've been using Galli Flatwound Bronze
G-V34C Custom Light 12 16 24w 32w 42w 53w
from http://www.bigcitystrings.com/galli.htm on my D25;I'm afraid they'll never die so I can try something else; they just keep going & sounding & playing better all the time(I play in church, so it's not like they're not getting enough play to wear out). I was trying to try different strings to see what was best, but I don't want to waste them by pulling them off while they're still getting better.
