Hi all -

Long time lurker - gotta question...

So ya know how Guild used those strap buttons that are not held on in the typical screw-in-the-center manor?

What's the trick to removing those things?
There must be a more elegant solution that grabbing it with pliers (and scratching the hell out of it)...

Thanks

You need a hole drill bit, but smaller than the ones they use to install door knobs...... ...no no no....so sorry for that image..... are you talking at bottom of guitar or on or near the neck block...Steffan

Plastic peg...throw a little piece of leather over it to protect the plastic and use a pair of pliers, those with the long handles work well..grip and gently rotate a little...they are a tapered friction fit, and some people use a wee drop of glue on them...should be some info on frets.com....Steffan

Ok, so is it a jack for a pickup, does it have a hole to plug in the cord....If its an acoustic guitar with a sound hole...when you have the strings off reach inside to feel if its threaded and there is a nut there.... a picture would be handy, to see what we are dealing with , or you could always take it to a trusted Luthier, which I'm thinking might be a good idea...Steffan

nope - no jack.
This is just a regular strap button on a solid body (s100).
I'm just trying to get the thing off so I can install strap locks.

Mine have always just fallen out! That's how I got introduced to Straplocks back in the early 80s.

As GAD says, some ( a lot) just fall out. Typically at fault is the installer cut the pin too short (at full length the pin would not seat all the way in... kind of a Catch-22)

Anyway, wrap the end with cloth and give it a good tug, or and use the pliers over the cloth.

If you anticipate staying around LTG for a while, it may not be a bad idea to acquire this.

I've got one, and they're pretty neat for any type of knob pulling you can do on a guitar unless your EVH. They're a bit costly, but so are the parts they save (try replacing a Guild knob that got chewed up when you sprayed out the pots on your next vintage Guild).

Good question. Guild used it over a long period of time so someone must have had a reason.
Replacing with Schaller straplocks is the one modification I always do.

You have an S-100? More details and pics, please!

Welcome!
