Changing strings on my new to me F512 and figured I should put new batteries in the pick up. How do I get access? Pics soon!
Thx

Windsurf... If the system is the Load 'N Lock like Ralf showed, you may have trouble getting the AA batteries out of the sleeve. Hopefully that will not be a problem though. Sometimes the batteries have leaked or swelled in the sleeve and then you have to pull the batteries out, which might require some extreme methods.

To keep that from happening, use Li ion AA batteries like these:

Better yet, don't keep the batteries in there at all unless you're planning on plugging in. Mine got stuck in there after swelling and leaking, and my luthier had a very hard time getting them out. I was lucky the whole pickup wasn't ruined. I learned my lesson with pickups that use AA batteries, which tend to rupture a lot more than 9Vs.

Yes, this! It's really the only way to ensure against degrading batteries. None of my acousti-lectric guitars have batteries installed.

What GGJaguar and Twocorgis said. I leave them out of my 512 until I'm going to need them. Had some trouble getting them out one time and learned my lesson!

But on my DTAR for my '11 F-30RCE, it was a 9 volt battery in a "bag" by the neck block. Is this a different "version" of DTAR?

BTW, I have since removed it, this is just a question out of curiousity.

Hi Walrus,

Yes. The D-TAR Wavelength pickup was sold with "Load 'N Lock" endpin for a lot of the Tacoma-era instruments. New Hartford abandoned Load 'N Lock some time in 2010, I think, after they discussed it with us at one of the LMG events.

Yeah...but when the batteries leak in what looks like a regular Radio Schaak cheapo two AA holder, that really
is a custom one attached to a circuit board, still a tough fix. Ask me how I know
