Talented musician, composer, and humorist. Gone at 88. :(

I saw him in concert once, not in his capacity as serious composer but as a humorist in his performance of PDQ Bach.

I was in the music fraternity in college, and I remember everyone in the music school loved PDQ Bach, but you had to be a classically trained musician to understand a lot of his jokes, as of course we all were. I recall there was one called Concerto for Horn and Hardart. The hardart was an instrument which incorporated popping balloons and you played it by putting coins in slots.

Do you know what Horn and Hardart was, Reilly? That might've been something only New Yorkers knew about.

I loved the Automat as a kid............I thought it was cool to put a coin or two in the slot and the glass door opened and you got your food. Quite an inovation in it's day.
