^^^^ - Man had the moves!

RIP - I saw Wayne Kramer in his band supporting a Radio Birdman reunion tour in 1996, here in Sydney. He & the MC5 were a pretty big influence on a lot of guitarists & bands I loved. The 1st verse of this song by The Clash is about him:

I saw the MC5 documentary (*A True Testimonial*) in a theater here in Cambridge when it played a few years back, and was looking forward to its release on DVD. But Wayne scuttled that idea, which was very disappointing, as it's a amazing flick, with some telling interviews and impressive live footage. (I was hoping for complete versions of some of the live songs might be included as DVD bonus material.)

I'd heard that Kramer decided -- after the fact -- that the documentary should also include stuff about his post-MC5 solo career, which would have made it a whole different thing, and a much more expensive project, requiring additional shooting and editing, etc. (And it really makes no sense -- most of the band members, not just Kramer, had careers after the MC5.)

Here's hoping it still manages to see the light of day.

Here's what Wikipedia says about it:

Thanks, acmedrygoods! That particular video with Rambling Rose & Kick Out The Jams & Lookin' At You has long been a favorite of mine, mostly because of Wayne's performance. Fred "Sonic" Smith put on quite the show, as well!

RIP Wayne Kramer

I was a teen in the Detroit area in those days but never got around to seeing the MC5 live. Saw the Stooges live twice. The first time I saw the Stooges headlining, The Bob Seger System played second on the bill !!! That was in the fall of 1971.

This won't count for much, but last spring when I was in suburban Detroit to sell my mother's house I did track down the grave of MC5's lead vocalist Rob Tyner, who's buried about a mile or so from where I grew up. At the top of his headstone is inscribed "Let me be who I am..." from the chorus of "Kick Out The Jams".
