A friend of mine has an oddball S-300 with a bolt-on neck.
Everything I've read is that all S-300s had set necks.
But I've also been told by LTG member matsickma that he saw another S-300 with a bolt-on neck on eBay.

I took some pics with my camera phone.
They're terrible, and I will take better ones when I get the chance.
But I wanted to post them anyway to get some feedback on this guitar.

My friend said his brother bought the guitar in a pawn shop around 1982-83.
It has a mahogany body which you can tell because the finish is worn through on the back, a maple neck with center strip of mahogany and an ebony fingerboard.
Serial number is 148672 and matches on both the headstock and the sticker in the control cavity.
Tell me what you think.
A rare Guild or FrankenGuild?

(Crappy pics deleted now that I've posted better ones)

An important thing to know is what's the model designation that's written on the label.

I've asked my friend to send me a pic of the inside of the back cover.
I won't see him for a week, but when I do I'm going to take my SLR so I can get good pics that show the neck and body joint better.
Besides the back cover, are there any other areas that you want detailed images of?

Thanks for that one. Well, at this point I have nothing to add really. The parts all look legitimate and it might have been an experiment but it's weird they labeled it an an S-300. The other one that was on eBay had a serial number that was quite close. Would love to see the guitar in the 'flesh'.

Anyway, yes I would love to see some more 'quality' photos. Maybe some that show the neck joint from different angles. I don't expect your friend to take the neck off, but I wouldn't mind taking a look in the neckpocket.

Sincerely,

I think my friend would agree to taking it apart to show you the neck pocket. I've piqued his interest with the strangeness of his guitar.
I'll keep you posted.
