Just saw this on eBay. The guy is posting a "new" S100 Deluxe for sale. It was purchased last month by his dad. Unfortunately his dad just passed away.
That sure is hitting home for many of us LTG geezers!
I had two HS friends, guy and a girl, just pass away in the last month.

Uh, yup. My HS has a site where 140 of my graduating class have profiles. 59 of that class are dead already!

It may be just me, but...that would make me want to hang onto it even more. *shrug*

I held on to my dad's French horn for decades before I realized I would never play it well or seriously. Knowing what I know now I almost wish my mom had sold or given it to someone who knew him and had played with him but I also know why that wasn't an option for my mom at the time.

When I was in the 2nd grade, I had the idea I wanted to play the violin. My grandmother bought me one. Well playing the violin lasted about a year. So for the next 60 years, I kept it in it's case. Being sentimental I didn't want to find a new home for it.

Then I finally realized how stupid that was. I know someone out there would love to have it. So one day while visiting my son in Atlanta, I was reading the paper. There was a well established organization for teaching young people how to play the violin and related instruments. They were looking for donations of instruments. I thought to myself, this would be perfect. Someone would get use of the instrument. I know this would make my grandmother happy. I wish I figured it out, years before, but there was a happy ending.

Sad, yeah. I had an experience this week where I was in a shop and picked up Frank Zappa's Overnight Sensation vinyl album and realized that what I was holding was 50 years old this year. I recall the first time I heard the album in 1973 and caught 2 of the 3 nights Zappa was playing live in Detroit in November of 1973 at the Masonic Auditorium. Good times.

Time passes on but I still feel that the best is yet to come and I keep learning new things. Living is learning and learning is living.

Sorry for your loss, friend. Stay healthy. Hope you keep playing for a long time.
