Oh no... RIP, Seiji!!!! Led the BSO for many, many years. Never played under his baton, but know a bunch of folks who did. SIgh.

Drove into Boston today for some lab work, lots of digital signs on buildings honoring him. RIP.

I read his conversations a few years ago. Aside from his long career in Boston and other orchestras, he did so much in education; growing the next generation.
Highly recommended.

That is very sad news He was a fixture in Boston for so long. What an incredible career, and what a loss for the music world. RIP.

If any of you are trumpet players (I am!), you have to read the book "In Concert: Onstage and Offstage with the BSO"

The story(s) of Charlie Schlueter and Seiji Ozawa are a true eye-opener and very well-told by the book's author.

... And, thinking of the maestro, I am preparing for a concert today! Wish me luck (or rather break a leg). :D

SO revolutionized my image of conductors. He conducted the Toronto Symphony in the late 60s. I didn't live here then, but many performances were televised on CBC. It was a pleasure watching the ball of energy who brandished the baton.
