Hey guys,

Since this is my first semi-hollow (see NGD 1966 SF IV Thread), I was wondering what type of strings to put on.

I know this is more a personal preference thing, but is there a certain gauge and type of string you prefer on your hollow bodies and semi-hollow bodies?

I usually go light and use EB 9s on my Strat. The s-100 still had 10s from when I brought it from Q. Thinking of going to 9s there too...I usually play 9s, just easier on the fingers, but I thought I remembered reading that a thicker gauge is better for the fuller woody sound.

Any opinions, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

Mine would be to go at least with 10's... lighter strings tend to sound even thinner on a semi hollow than on a solid body. Give these mini hum's something to munch on!
Having fun yet?

On my leccies, pretty much anything I can put my hands on, as long as it's 10's.
Right now I have a little stock of Rotosound's bought from the clearance basket at GC, and I actually like them very much.
Otherwise, DR's, Dean Markley's and EB's are the ones I've used the most.

Yes sir, I think 10's are the best. Good tone and easy to bend.

I'm a fan of GHS Boomers on my electrics.

I've always used D'Addario Jazz Extra Lights on any archtop I've had - including the semi-hollow ES-135 I play now. I like a wound third...

Nice avatar of Tony E.'s jersey!

I use D'Addario 10's (XL-110) on my Stratocaster, and D'Addario 11's (XL-115) on the Starfire IV. With the shorter scale length the SF feels about the same tension as the Strat that way.
