I wonder why nobody picked up on those interesting pics on the Soundgarden website. I'm not sure when but sometime in 2011 Mike McCready of Pearl Jam played a song or two with the boys from Soundgarden.

Interestingly enough Mr.McCready (unlike for instance Mr.Cantrell of AIC who played along PJ on Alive sometime ago in 2011) came without a guitar. So Mr.Thayil was kind enough to lend him one of his axes. Guess what guitar he lent Mike. Green S-100 (I'm guessing a reissue). Wasn't he aware that Mr.McCready is a "thrower" (of guitars that is). Served him right in the end. Just kidding :D :D :D

Here is a 3 photos long account of how it all came about (in my mind that is):

Mike: "Damn! What the heck is that thing that you gave me?! How the hell do you play on that?"
Kim: "Look. Just do it like I do. It's easy."

I'm getting the hang of this, Chris!

Chris: "Come on! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!"
Kim: "He's gonna do it. Watch out everybody! Incoming! Ahhh hell. I guess I'll have to put on a make-pretend smile in public while he's breaking my stuff."
Mike: "This is what I came here for. Step aside boys. Fire in the holes!!!"

In the second pic he`s thinking `f-yeah, I should have switched over to Guilds years ago - this is what it`s all about.`

Nice post R.G, I`m going to see them on the 25th of this month, I`ll let you know what axes he uses on the night.

Cheers. Rob

Please do so :) As far as trading Guilds I wondered why I never saw Cornell playing one of Kim's S-100s. I mean he must've at least strummed it one time or another. It'd be interesting to hear them both playing Guilds.

What would have made this photo better is if Chris Cornelll was playing a Starfire rather than a 335. That would have been a triple vintage Guild attack. The photos were from a July 22, 2011 performance at The Forum in L.A. They played Superunknown and, of course, there's a video of it on Youtube.

Thanks for the pics & video link TF.

How rare are those green S-100s? Were the 90s reissues only done in that colour?

Most people seem to prefer the 70s S-100s to the reissues but if the greens ones were only available among the reissues then that's a great reason to get one. It's a sexy beast!

Thanks, Thunder. What a great watch that clip was. I wish the sound was on par.

One can only hope that they'll someday release some DVD which would include that performance as an easter-egg or just make it available for download on their website (much like they put out Beyond the Wheel from Nudedragons show).

If it's an early reish and got HB1s in it (like Hammer's one) then sign me up :)

I could be wrong -- and I frequently am  -- but I believe green was only a reissue color. But for more on this subject, I turn the keyboard over to Hammer, who just so happens to own a green reissue S-100. Some applause, please, for our own Hammer! 8) :D

Ha, I think I have a pic of Hammer's guitar on my PC.

RG, a green re-issue with HB-1s? I think a few if us would be signing up for that one!

The gig was o.k,could have been much louder and the sound was a bit muffled. They all had a few small stacks each and relied on the p.a for most of the volume. Kim played the S100 on most songs, the S300 on a few and the firebird on a couple. Most songs were off badmotorfinger,a few off superunknown and down on the upside. The highlight for me was ugly truth,I awake and gun from louder than love. Hunted down from the screaming life e.p was also a nice suprise. Chris cornell said they`d be back later in the year for a proper tour for the new album.(with some real amps and real volume hopefully)

Thanks for the review, Rob. I wonder how their new record would sound. I'm hoping quality-wise it's gonna be on par with their previous records. Keep my fingers crosses that their reunion will turn out to be as sweet as Dinosaur Jr.'s one

Vadim.
