So what's wrong with this D-40?

Reverb 1970 D-40

I am sure I am not the only one who has noticed this poor 1970 D-40 languishing on Reverb for 3 years and 17 offers.

Sounds like the seller isn't willing to budge much, but its had a refret and reset. Yes, the back the neck is gnarly and it has weird gold tuners, but are those the only downsides? Am I missing something?

I don't see anything obvious, but what do I know :) Maybe the seller is not responding, and decided to keep the guitar. It seems like a fair price.

Lacquer crack in the back? (Shouldn't affect anything as the center seam is braced inside.)

Is 1800 a fair price, given the state it's in? It's more than I'd be willing to pay, but I may be remembering prices in the good 'ol days.

I remember when a D 18 could be had for $1200. Not pristine mind you, but with a lot of life left in it. Now that's what a guitar needing a lot of work goes for, and that is probably a dream these days. I know I value my 70 D 35 at at least the $1400 I have in it after all the work. You used to be able to buy project D 25s and D 35s under $500 too. I bought mine from Gryphon at least twenty years ago for $250.

Flip side is I've seen two and three year old D 18s under $2k and as low as $1700 recently. A Martin of the same vintage with the work done would be $3000 around here, so perhaps $1800 isn't so out of line. Old wood is desirable to me.

Not sure, but I don't think that's the original pick guard either.

Price is too high for the condition, @E-Type . That's the reason why it hasn't sold.

I'm thinking it is high too, but with a reset/refret in my area going for $900, I don't think $1,500-$1,600 is too out of line. I would think one of the 17 offers would have been close enough to make it work. I was just wondering if there was something else obviously wrong that I was missing.

Hec I think is looks like is has some serious Mojo. Love to play it.:giggle:
Yeah if the reset and fret work was done well this could be a really nice score.
