Soundhold cover for a '70 D-25... the hole seems to be 3.625" diameter. Suggestions?

While it is easy to find soundhole covers for a 4" diameter hole, my '70 D-25's hole is a bit smaller -- looks to be 3-5/8". A 100mm cover is 3.93" and a 3.3" hole cover would be way too small.

Suggestions?

My solution would be unconventional, like making a cover out of cardboard. Could color print a picture of wood grain, cut out the shape, and glue it to the cardboard. Or even easier, just tape the color printout of wood grain over the soundhole. Disclosure: I've never tried this.

What I don't know is whether the soundhole cover has to be resonant. I suppose it opens up an entire new set of new questions about how soundhole covers change the sound.

They are usually made out of solid rubber, which I am guessing blocks sound more than cardboard would. But worth a try for sure!

E Type,
Please enlighten me as to the purpose of the soundhole cover.
Other than blocking squirrels from nesting inside the guitar, I don't understand what it is used for.
Please and thanks.

GuildFS4612CE,
Thanks for the explanation.
E-Type,
Just because we are in the midst of re-doing the flooring in our home, it occurs to me that an off-cut of luxury vinyl flooring that looks like wood would be a perfect material from which to cut the cover.
you could probably get a small piece from the offcut/sample bin at a store that sells flooring.

This! I try to position speakers, monitors, etc so it isn’t a problem, but sometimes just bending over to change a setting on something or moving/turning can start a terrible howling. Esp at practice when we are more facing each other. It’s just a precaution.
