Folks,
I worked in a music store in the late 60's-early 70's. A guitar teacher there had the most amazing color SF VI. It's wasn't total black and it wasn't total green . The grain showed through nicely and I have never seen this color since.
Am I crazy? Was it an emerald green that faded ?

Welcome to LTG! Yes, it sounds like it could be Emerald Green which tended to be dark. Here's a pic of a 1967 Emerald Green Starfire IV.

GG,
Thanks for the quick response. It is possible that it darkened .It would have been a '67 or so. When did the master volume appear ?

Welcome to LTG! Since you asked about a Starfire VI originally, the VI and the Starfire V always had a master volume. The Starfire IV got the MV around 1973 but some specials had one earlier.

Here is a 1966 SF VI with flame maple top in Emerald Green, in that case without Guildby. They still had a 16th fret neck to body connection at that time.

If it had a green tint, then I am with GG that it would have been emerald green. Emerald green can range from lighter to so dark it almost looks black.

Regarding the master volume, you said it was a Starfire VI and I those always had a master volume ( I will wait to be corrected)). The green one above is a Starfire IV which in this era would not have a master volume as standard but could have one as a special order.

If it was more black it could be ebony grain like this one:

So perhaps it was Ebony. My 1st electric was a Starfire II in black 1972, I sold it to buy the X-500.

In the pre 1970's Starfire bass world the emerald green on a maple body is remembered as being much brighter than emerald green on mahogany. So the OP mentioned guitar may have ]been on mahogany.

I didn't know Guild used mahogany in the SF line.
It was most commonly used for the Starfire II, III, IV and V in the 1960s. The Starfire VI was more commonly made with flame maple (fancy!) probably because it was the top of the line model.
