We saw her in one of our favorite small venues, five years or so ago, and she was excellent.
Standup bass--her long time accompanist--and another guitarist.
Lovely stage presence, excellent repertoire, sympathetic backup, and she sounded really good.
She was in the lobby after the show, just hanging to talk with people.
A few people stopped, and we waited to speak with her, and she is just a lovely person--down to earth, friendly, happy to just chat
with us--about shows, traveling, playing--really just a normal person.
We truly enjoyed her show.

The first time I saw Suzy was on Nashville Now Cable TV show with Ralph Emery in 1990. He would have many new artists on and a bunch of well known ones too. Within one week he had on Suzy Bogguss, Kathy Mattea, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Nanci Griffith. They were all pretty new to the Nashville scene at that time. Suzy had a warm sweet voice and had great stage presence and at that time she played a Guild. Not sure which model but sometime in the mid 90s I remember that that guitar was stolen right off the back stage area and during an interview she stated that it was the guitar she had used from the beginning of he career and she was heartbroken. I have her original CD somewhere that has her recording of Out Bound Blane which was written by Nanci Griffith. I never had the pleasure of seeing her in person and I went to the Newport Folk Festival in 1990, 1991 and 1992. All of the other gals I mentioned here were at Newport at least one of those 3 years. I lost track of Suzy because I fell in love with Nanci and followed her intensely through 2000.

My friend (and fellow tribesman) Craig Smith plays with her, and even Tommy Emmanuel! That's Craig and all his hair on the right. He's from the Orkney Islands, and has a really unique accent. Hell of a picker, too.
