have you seen Top Gun: Maverick yet? It was better than the original, imho.
Yes sir, I have, a couple of times. I've always had a bit of trouble with the gross insubordination in TG, but I guess that's part of the entertainment value. I keep trying to imagine a Captain disregarding the direct orders of Admirals, and coming out smelling like a rose each time. :ROFLMAO:

Do I recall correctly he was out there on the cutting edge, Forward Air Controller in Viet Nam? Talk about walking a tightrope. Let him know there' still folks out there who "remember. ", even when it's not Memeorial Day. ;)
No sir, during the war, Kenny was Crew Chief for one of the most famous "Sandy" pilots that flew rescue cover, Roger Youngblood. Roger does talks at air shows around the country about his role in Vietnam. After the war, in '94, he went to Hanoi and worked with the Communist Vietnamese to recreate battle fields and locate and repatriate American remains. He is quite the historian and researcher. Kenny attended college after the war, and went back in as an officer.

In the link below, that's Scratch on the left, with Roger Youngblood.

And Dad, top row standing, second from the right, under the prop, in the black flight jacket.

In the Navy, aviators wear brown shoes, the same color as their jackets. 😉

Surface Navy wears black shoes.

Not that I'm aware of Al. I wish he still hung around here and could answer you himself. I miss his commentary on so many things, but we call each other maybe once a month.

B b b bomber. Loved the sound of those engines

Great air show here last month.

About ten years ago I was in line to go inside a B-17. I've always bragged I could draw one better than the engineers who designed it.

Anyways there was a much older man with his grandson next to me. He was about 5' tall, grandson was my age. Turns out he was a ball turret Gunner for the Eight AF. Boy the hell he must have seen. He hadn't seen one one in over sixty years. He just kept looking down on the hatch to the ball turret and the waist gunner window on the left side. Apparently flack took out his buddy and the plane came back with a huge hole in the fuselage right above him. Yikes
