My brother collects these nice watches like they were guitars, lol. I think he said his most expensive is not a Rolex but a Patek Philippe. I mentioned the old $100 blue-face wristwatch I had stopped working even with a new battery, and he sent me a blue-face Grand Seiko he had. Nice watch! I set it correct to the second via NIST's "official U.S. Time" site several months ago. I just checked to see if it gained or lost any time. It was exactly on time! Of course, I rarely need to know what day it is, much less what exact time it is.
Those Grand Seikos are fabulous watches, a big rabbit hole but even their Zaratsu polishing tecnique for their case and lugs is an interesting read.... but they will never have the cachet of a Rolex to a non watch enthusiast.

The Grand Seiko to the average person is no better than an Invicta, I'm just hoping to bump into one at a garage sale where the seller thinks the battery died! That's a watch I'd pass to my son....if I had one....(son that is).

That's cool. I never heard of "Grand Seiko" until today. So, is Grand Seiko to Seiko like R. Taylor is to Taylor?

The perfect explanation for this crowd ! (y)
Other than the woodworking vs. metalworking factor, a fine timepiece ticks many of the same boxes as a fine guitar. Of course, humming or ticking isn't the same as making music, exactly... :)

"I worked in the toolmaking profession ie making jigs, fixtures, molds, stamping dies all types of production manufacturing tools."

I wish I had a sliver of your knowledge so I could fab some took tools, jigs, or even simple stuff when I work on old cars. There is a guy that seems to have all that covered and posts in the forum I follow, so that helps.

I should link to his web page for those of you who like seeing things fixed or made " right ".
