Just for fun I made a truss rod cover for my D-55 out of jatoba wood:

At first I thought, "that's too red," but now I'm starting to like it. Opinions?

Hey, it's mounted the correct way, so definitely thumbs up! 😃

Maybe I would round the edges a tiny bit, it looks like it has sharp edges all around?

Good eye. Yes, it does, because the finish on it was on the scrap of flooring I made it out of, and I wasn't sure enough about it to put the work into refinishing it right away, which I would have to do if I rounded the edges. If I decide to keep it on there, I'll definitely relieve the sharp edges a bit and refinish it.

Is the guitar a sunburst or natural finish?
Would love to see the whole guitar to decide...
It's a natural. I'll try to post another pic tomorrow.

Then I like it! Not sure that would look on a 'burst.

Kudos for being able to make your own truss rod cover! Reminds me of Guild's 45th anniversary guitar.

The thin warped black plastic ones that come on my guitars looked too cheap. I took the lazy way out and bought a couple made out of ebony. In dynamic lighting, the satin sheen of the ebony looks fantastic against the high gloss finish of the headstock. I am going to order a couple more for my other Guilds. I had the option of striped or non-stiped ebony. When the guitar has a faceplate that shows the natural wood grain, I prefer the contrast of the non-stiped ebony truss rod cover.
