I was given a Guild archtop this past week. It is a sunburst A-50 with the serial number 10462. I am trying to date this guitar. I received it from a friend, it had been stored in his basement and the basement leaked water. The guitar received only minor damage, mainly cosmetic to the finish on the bottom edge of the back of body. It also has some binding that has shrunken and is loose. Not sure if that is from the water, or just age and degassing.
It plays and sounds great! I would appreciate any info on this guitar. My first Guild! I have been playing guitar for over 50 years (a geezer!) and am new to this forum.
I should introduce myself. I began playing guitar about 1959 and my first guitar was an acoustic archtop (with very high action) my parents bought from a friend. I soon got a better archtop that was shortly replaced by a white 1959 Danelectro. It was bought from an older kid in town and came with the Daneletro amp and matching seperate spring reverb unit. I put a Bigsby on that guitar. I used that until I bought a new 1965 Fender Jazzmaster shortly after HS graduation. I also have and play a fiddle, banjo, mandolin (F-5 copy that I made myself. I played in early R&R bands through HS, in a folk group during college and various bands for about 25 years after that. The last being a bluegrass band, in which I played mandolin.
I own a number of acoustics, (including a 12 string and a classical, and various electrics and basses). I also have a mountain dulcimer which I also made from scratch. I really like this Guild!
Thanks!
