Might need to take up a little more and have less slack in strings when winding the strings - ye think.

I can see that some people end up being worse than me at strings winding....It pleases me (I'm still improving 🤩)
But you've got to be nice, no pack ever mentions it's not compulsory to use the whole string !

<veer>In Ye Olden Days when the internet was not available to spread rumors and incorrect information there was a lot of lore about bass strings. Two things were believed in my circle of friends. One was that the "life" of the strings could be increased by boiling them. I still don't know whether that is true or not and since I am no longer paying for strings with the proceeds of my lawn mowing jobs it doesn't really matter. The other belief was that cutting the string had a negative impact on the winding and the integrity of the string. There is some truth to that (as fitting a long scale string to a short scale bass may demonstrate) but friends who erred on the side of caution left the string untrimmed. The smart ones realized that it was a PITA tuning strings with that much on the tuner and so wove the excess into "circles".

Not just bass strings, heard it about acoustic guitar strings, too. I tried it at least once when I lived in an area where I couldn't find 12 string sets. Just like Frono, not sure if it made a difference or not.

You'd have to boil them without having them wet at any point I'd suggest...Metal into water means rust, corrosion and so on, doesn't it ?
I've never tried
