I have a chance to pick up an X-160. I currently have a 2012 Tennessee Rose 6119. I’d be selling the TR to fund the guild. Thoughts on this? I realize the TR is a longer scale and shallower body. It’s a great guitar but I’d love an X-160 or X-500.

I paid $1400 for the TR about 2 years ago. To sell quickly I’d probably post it around $1300 and hope for $1200 on reverb. I’ll list it locally but local stuff never seems to sell.

So I may lose $200 on the deal but it’s not the end of the world. Again, input is appreciated.

I can't say I know anything re guild electrics or arch tops, but I am an expert at justifying guitar purchases and trades. You have owned to TR for 2 years. Have you gotten $200 of enjoyment out of it? If so, it's not a loss. It's a total gain.

Have you played the Guild? I love Gretsch, but I like that era of Guilds more. :)

Is the Guild an X160 or X161 (with Guildsby)? What year is the Guild? They change a fair bit depending on year. The X160 Rockabilly is really more like an X150 than the earlier X160s.

It has the guildsby. Early 2000s. Ya I’m a bigger guild fan too. I had a Newark Starfire 5 and it was really nice but I’m trying to thin the herd and only have the ones I really want to keep.

No, I haven’t played the guild but I’ve never read a bad review on one

Early 2000s means an X160 Rockabilly, then. Lots of detail here:

If it matters, since you're also interested in an X-500, note that the Westerly-made X-160s have a bigger body (not quite as big as an X-500, but close). The Corona-made X-160s are not as wide or deep as the Westerly examples.

Which TR do you have? Thinner, electrotone body and Hi-Lo'Trons? Or the thicker (real f-holes) with Filter'Trons?

The rockabilly x-160 will have DeArmonds so maybe limited style-wise, depending on what type of music you like to play.

And $1200 is a pretty good price for a Tenny, condition not withstanding.

It’s the real F holes with the filtertrons

It’s a Terada factory

It’s a fantastic guitar and really the only thing I would consider trading it, for it would be a hollow guild. I am a huge paladins fan, so that’s part of it, but I know the quality of the guild is top notch

Thanks, I did read that. I’ve read a lot of your stuff so thanks for posting that. That article was one of the biggest reasons I’m going to take the plunge.

Also. Thanks for all the thorough reviews Gary. Do you still have the X160? Still feel the same about it? I actually liked the idea of the setzer hot rod because I love v necks but I also have an R8 that is incredible so if this plays like that I’ll be extremely happy.

Ok. Follow-up. The X-160 is supposed to arrive today. New question or poll

Sell the Tenny for $1500 local or trade it for a 2000 Gibson Les Paul Classic 1960s in tea burst. Thoughts. I am guessing the LP may be worth a little more.
