Non-original bridge, but it looks nice. You're probably the best judge since you had it in hand. Is there anything in particular you noted about it that may have been of concern?

Were they doing MOP-inlayed headstocks like that in 1954? I'm just questioning the dating is all.

The one picture of it seems to show a guitar that's "younger" than that era. Perhaps it was refinished and/or the pickup covers are newer than original ?

In my excitement I forgot to write down the serial number but it is 19xx something like that. I expected the cruder inlay I have seen on early guitars with the triangle under the GUILD. It is in very good condition and very expensive but.....It's here so I can play it. I have known Nate for many years and he has always been good to me. The orig. bridge is in the case and the frets are playable but should be dressed. Action is good. I don't need it but what has that got to do with it! I am sooo tempted. It's a guitar for life and I have always wanted one! Looking for any red flags.
Thanks John

John, I'm not sure that I/we can vouch for it's original-condition authenticity given what I/we are seeing. Having said that, if you love the guitar, trust the seller, and don't mind the cost you should buy it, man! Echoing what GAD said, the top is beautiful!

Good luck in your decision!

That is gorgeous! The serial number looks to be 198x or something like that. I have a 1954 Aristocrat with serial number 1969. Mine has the same headstock inlay but with the G below the Guild. My understanding is that 1954 is the year that had a few headstock inlay evolutions. However, I don‘t have the Guild Book with me at the moment to confirm. It looks really nice! Looks to have been a case queen as the pickup covers, switch tip, and other parts have not aged as much as mine. As others have said, if you like the way it plays and you trust the seller, that looks like a great one to purchase.

How does it sound plugged in? Mine had extra caps and resistors from the factory in the original wiring. I kept everything original but bypassed the extra caps and such. Without pulling the harness (which is a little bit of a pain on the Aristocrat due to the thin body), you can see if the pots are wired “normal” by checking the resistance at the output jack. Mine would not read correctly until I bypassed the caps and resistors at the pots. Mine also had a cap on the pickup switch making the neck very dark. I unsoldered one end. It was dark before but now sounds amazing!

The original bridge is included. I'd say, if you want it and can afford it, get it, but maybe try to haggle a bit. It looks great. Doubt you'd find a nicer one.
