What's the skinny on the early 80's M-80's?

That's what I've always heard, too. But, a solid body guitar with HB-1 pickups is a thing of awesome sonic beauty.

I actually just picked up an '81 and it is heavy, but super cool! Brass nut, 24 feet access, and it seems to have an ebony fingerboard but I could be wrong. It also has a neat phase/coil switch that engages the single coils of the humbuckers. I'm a huge Bluesbird fan and play them almost exclusively live. The M80 has similar strong pickup output and awesome sustain. As long as I'm not doing four hour shows, I can hack the weight and look forward to playing it out. Another under appreciated Guild model! I say grab it while you can!

Right on Smitch, great evaluation.
Mine is heavy but not very heavy, with a medium-thin neck like on my S90 and S100.

yeah I do not "need" another guitar. If it could be had for $950-$1100 I might consider.

I am the original owner of an M80, I believe it was 1981 when I got it and am thinking of parting with it if I had serious offers.
The main reason is the weight, I have played many gigs over the years and I am getting too old to lug that weight all night and end up with a stiff neck and shoulders.
It is a great guitar and I love it but am thinking of getting something easier to play all night.
Will post pics later. It is nearly perfect, it does have two very small dings in the laquer and belt buckle marks but otherwise all original and very nice.
