Why does it have to be so beautiful?

About once a year, I decide to sell off my X170t. I pull it out, clean it up, put on new strings, take pics, play it, and decide to keep it. Why does it have to be so damn sexy?

I look forward to the well deserved mocking regarding the fingerprints. :)

Beautiful looking guitar & love the amp too. What causes that initial impulse to sell?

Thanks!

I really don't play it since my Setzer Gretsch SSLVO get's all the orange guitar duties.

It's a crime to keep the Guild in my closet. It was very nice outside today, so I pulled it all out, took pics, and then played it for over an hour.

I hunted for it for a long time, so it pains me to let it go. Just like the near mint S300A-D that sits next to it.

That Bassman is another joy. I redid the caps and completely re-housed it, then changed the grill to oxblood. You can read all about it here if you're so inclined:

I run a Nocturne Brain into a Stymon El Capistan into the Bassman. Around the house, I run it all through my Faustine Phantom attenuator. The Bassman has NOS tubes and sounds just killer.

You can read all about that in my article about chasing Brian Setzer's tone: http://www.gad.net/Blog/2011/06/07/how- ... zers-tone/

As you can see, I have a lot of gear. Too much. Hence the urge to sell from time to time.

Nice rig (rigs) there! I'm facing a similar dilemma as I try to make some room. So far, I've mostly sold duplicates of guitars I have, and just newer production amps. I'm weighing whether to sell an orange X160 ( I have two, one slightly modded), but my wife says "You shouldn't sell that, it's a Guild!"

Interesting info on the blogs GAD, I've read the Brian Setzer one previously.

Good job on the amp/cab. I have a 64 Vibrolux & I love it but I think the Fender brownface amps are often neglected in favour of Tweed & Blackface idolatry. I'd love to add one to my collection but like others here, I need to get rid of stuff - to make way for more Guilds!

Thanks! I've owned a blackface Twin and a blackface Princeton Reverb both of which where bone stock. I didn't like the princeton at all, though knowing what I know now, it probably needed a cap job. The Twin sounded great, but it was **LOUD**. My attenuator would have helped it, but it was designed to stay clean (which it did), and I'm a "dig in to make the amp dirty" kind of guy.

The Bassman is magnificent. I clipped a cap on the bass channel, so now it roars like a Marshall there while still giving me all the Setzer-esque goodness on the normal channel. Working on it made me love simple amps, which has led me to build a Tweed Champ clone (coming soon). :)

Re the Champ, I would advise that you consider using it with at least a 10" speaker. The only 8" speakers I tried with my silverface Champ (stock & a Weber replacement) I didn't like at all unless playing very clean. I did the tweed mods to it which makes the amp distort very easily but it just sounded harsh through the 8" speakers. Sounded pretty good through a 2 x 12 though!
