My first acoustic review, so any and all feedback is welcome because I'm really not an acoustic guy.

Nice review!

The 46s with rosewood back pieces are actually EARLY examples. Mine (of which you showed a pic) , which has the back piece, is from 81.

I think the inner stripe on the neck is mahogany?

Lastly... neck width varies. Mine is almost right on 1-11/16ths.

"The elitist tinkering snob in me feels the need to replace the nut and saddle with bone, but the player in my likes the sound of this guitar as-is."

Replace my with me.....

Enjoying the article very much. Fairly complete information here.....
:encouragement:

p.s. - really enjoyed the sound clips and I agree that the guitar has a real sparkle that is very "12-string-ish". Sounds really nice. Was wondering what strings you have on it? This guitar might need some "warming up" in that regard. But it's beautiful and i agree, the all Ash back is the BEST!!!

Outstanding review as ever GAD! That is one cool Guild!
Never have gotten within range of a D46, but that nut width
would be a deal breaker for me - sounds like the same nut
used on every dang D17 I've ever tried, and I've tried a bunch.
Definitely very bright and punchy sounding, super strong treble...

Strings on the guitar are Elixer Nanoweb Medium (13s) Phosphor Bronze.

Great review.

I would love to see more acoustic reviews. How about a comparison between Brazilian and Indian Rosewood F512s? Or F50Rs?

Or a comparison of 12 strings F212XL through F612?

Happy to facilitate.

Perhaps once I get rid of the backlog. Here's a picture of my backlog:

Interesting point about hearing loss and perception of guitar tone. Wonder if that is more common than people realize.

I find it interesting that they used ebony for fingerboard and bridge. I always assumed that the use of ebony was the province of higher end Guilds

In his review they have it on the same catalog page as the D50 which also showed ebony fretboard and bridge at the time,
Guild-1981-Pg05-D50-D46-1600-230x300.jpg

Kind of implies they did consider as it being on the same level, with a different body wood.
(Or at least, since model number is between D40 and D50, as a step up from D40)
