Why do I get the feeling that was all natural and someone finished the top and back.

Actually, this is the original finish, I've seen a few 401-402's all with the same finish.

First time I saw one I thought the same thing, or maybe a real over the top pick guard, but that is the way it left the factory or so I was told by folks I believe.
