Haven't had a chance to get the pics hosted, but, finally, here is the latest from Acorn House Guitars, a concert Ukulele that I've named "Kulakeiki" or golden child. I used solid koa top, back, and sides; bloodwood bindings; mahogany/maple neck; ebony fingerboard and bridge. I used hot hide glue for all of it (except for the neck laminations and inlay) and a traditional dovetail joint.

What a STUNNING instrument, Chris!!! Wow!! Of course, I'd expect nothing less from you. All your instruments are so beautifully and exactingly crafted and built that..... I'm not surprised. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! :encouragement:

Wow great work! I know nothing about ukes (except that they always remind me of Tiny Tim) but is the depth of the body on that one standard or a little deeper? I'm assuming the deeper the body, the bigger the sound (a concept I have assumed from witnessing the Orpheum 12 fret dreads)?

Thanks.

Neal, after seeing so many with just a white plastic binding (Martin's norm), I thought it looked so blah. (I don't like using plastic binding anyway.) So, looking at the choices, I thought the red of bloodwood would compliment the gold of the koa.

Zeija, I don't know if it's standard, but it measures at 2 9/16" outside depth. It fits (just) in the regular Musicians Gear hard case for concerts, so it's definitely in the ballpark. One thing I didn't do was taper the bottom, which some do, and is the norm for guitars. For something this size, I didn't see the need, and did indeed want more airspace.

Ill try to get a YouTube clip up in the next week or so. We just started the semester at school last week, so I've been busy tending to the day job.

Those posts were very interesting, Chris! Really impressive to watch the uke's progress, it really came out beautifully!

Going to give it its public debut at the faculty recital at the end of the month. Close the concert with a little fun by Pete Townshend, Richie Havens, and George Harrison.
