Watching American Pickers and they just an old country dance hall with the late owner's '58 Gretsch Chet Atkins, '50 Fender Deluxe, and '60 Vibroverb; all in well used, poorly stored, condition. After phoning Gruhn, they paid a total of $11,000 for the three. Gruhn quoted $15,500 as full retail if they're restored.
From the repairs (and the replaced speakers in the amps), I think they overpaid.
Now they're trying to sell to sell Dan Auerbach. We'll see how they do (and maybe get a sighting of his Thunderbird!)

So, of course, Auerbach is able to overpay, and spends $10.000 for the Gretsch and Vibroverb (He already had tweed Deluxe, so wasn't interested in that one.) So, their bacon was saved by a buyer not on a budget.

I have an auction house and also do personal property appraisals. When anyone mentions the "Pickers" I remind them that Mike and Frank make $30,000 plus per episode and it's not about the buying and selling, it's about the entertainment value.
