I know that the Oxnard plant will eventually put out some amazing guitars, But I couldn't pass on owning one more piece of Magic from New Hartford. If they revive the Orpheum line in Oxnard, they may be better than the originals and they may be worse, whatever the case is, they won't be New Hartford. Thanks to Keith7940236 for giving my 77 G212 a wonderful home to free up space for me to make this purchase.

I have been watching this guitar on and off for the last 5 months wondering if Rocky would drop the price enough to make it irresistible for me to purchase. Needless to say He finally did. I had made a previous post about a Brand New 14 fret Sloped Hog Orpheum at my local Guild dealer that didn't sound up to par. I can honestly say that the Jumbo is a completely different guitar much to my liking. Besides, How can you turn down a square mile of Adirondack on the top?

Everyone talks about the Orpheum Neck width at 1 3/4", which I thought would not work for me with my left shoulder/arm problems. Truthfully the neck feels no different than my F50R or my D55 Anniversary. I don't know if I got lucky and this is the only Orpheum with this neck width or if my other guitars are wider than they should be, Regardless it feels great. The top has a beautiful grain to it with some silking present. I love the Natural colored Mahogany back and sides.

Tone and setup out of the case was not bad but I knew she had more in her. The factory strings sounded like they were choking the guitars top when you played it. They were very restrictive and had no brilliance what so ever. I changed them out to my new Favorite Martin Monel Bluegrass set and with a small neck adjustment as well as shaving the saddle slightly she rings like a bell. Wonderful clear focused lows and a nice blend of Mid to high range that only comes from Adirondack. This guitar is a full pound lighter than my F50R and very responsive as well as very versatile. This guitar is Extremely Resonant and I can only imagine that it will open up even more over time. The subtle nuances of playing finger style bring out her sweeter side while Flat picking and strumming really let her sing! My only gripe would be that the tuners are not on par with the build quality of the guitar. They seem to drag a bit on the the wound low strings. I may change them out in the near future for a nicer set to compliment the guitar. Also am considering putting a Guild Traditional style Pickguard on her as well seeing as I'm not sold on the teardrop. I will try to get a sound clip up this week, until then here are some photos for everyone.

Thanks Jeff and Mav! I actually made it 37 days 18 hours and 21 minutes between purchasing My last Guild and this Guild. Hopefully I can last longer this this time before another relapse!:tongue-new: Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day Weekend!

I'd leave the pickguard as is. I think it matches with the scripted Guild logo on the headstock. If seen that shape pickguard on some of the Guild F-20's too, so it really doesn't look out of place to me.

Thanks to all, This girl is a cannon after 2 days of playtime, Tons of headroom on the Adirondack top! As far as the pick guard goes Tommy, it's not for aesthetic reasons that I may change it out, It's for practical purposes. This guitar's main use for me is as a Finger picker. Out of habit I when I finger pick I rest my pinky finger on the Pick guard for support and use my 3 other fingers and thumb to pick. With the teardrop pick guard my pinky sometimes rests right on the upper outer edge of the guard where it meets the top. This half on half off contact is a bit annoying. I don't have this problem on my other Guilds because they have the traditional pick guard. I'm trying to get used to it but if I cant it will either get a pick guard change or just have no pick guard at all.

Congratulations George, I'm really glad that you were able to snag that Orpheum! They really are sweet guitars. I would love to have a chance to do a side by side with some of the older jumbo guitars.

I'm really loving the G212! Thanks again.

Great guitar with a very, very nice top!!! I like the natural Mahogany a bit more than the darker stained on my 000. As for the tuners I have the same opinion: Guild should use tuners that are on par with the rest of the guitar. I had the chance to play a 14-fret slope shoulder last week in a big shop in Germany. Wasn't impressed by the sound to be honest :frustrating: Just not better than "not bad" - but maybe it's my 000 that is much better ?

I restringed the 000 with D'Addario EJ 16 and like it, but will try some other sets in the future.

lots of fun with your 'Girls'

That's quite the contrasting collection, txb. How do the acoustic 6 strings compare and what style or songs do you think they are most suited to?

Yeah, I prefer the larger / longer Guild style pickguard too, for some of the light percussion tapping that I do from time to time.

First off, Thanks to everyone for the responses and I wish everyone a Wonderful Memorial Day. Great Question Merlin! I play everything from 1950's-present, Rock and Country to Blues and a little Jazz. Pretty much everything in between along with my Original Music which has been labeled as Driving Country Rock or Texas Country/Southern Rock. All of the 6 strings have their own voice. I have or will use all of them to write as each different tone stirs up different Ideas and memories. That was one of the reasons I wanted an Orpheum Jumbo as I knew it would be different than anything I currently have. Here is a quick Description of each guitars tone.

GSR D50 Cocobolo- Great projection with well established Low to Mid Tone, Very Smokey overall tone but still Very crisp when flatpicked, Excellent for single note picking with a volume that can cut through the mix, also shines on rhythm.

D55 Brazilian- Similar to the GSR D50 with a more pronounced Mid Range. Amazing Overtones unrivaled by any other guitar I own. Sounds like a Symphony is playing along while strumming chords. My favorite Rhythm Guitar by Far.

D26NT Mahogany- Classic Arched back Guild sound with more projection than a flat back Dread. Great for Bluegrass or fingerpicking. Faster note decay than others. Great for Picking Bluegrass Favored tunes with a mix of strumming and single note picks. This is my Cookout/party guitar.

F50R- My go to Jack of all trades guitar. Warm Sitka tone that has brilliance when strummed but really excels at Finger Picking with clear booming lows and a nice balance of midrange to ringing highs. Beautiful Overtones and Rich Harmonics. I play all genres and styles on this one.

Orpheum Jumbo- The tone on this one is amazing. It's like there is no ceiling to the volume of the guitar with the Adirondack top. The dynamics are great. Tone has nice Crisp lows and a beautiful mix of Mids and Highs. Very responsive to different styles of play but I love the way it sounds Finger picked. Crystal clear and a ton of sustain. Will be greatly suited for all Genres but takes to Bluegrass especially well. Surprisingly not a lot of note decay. Has nice range of overtones for Mahogany.

I plan on cutting some new sound clips in the next few days and I will make sure I post the link. As for now the link that Jeffcoop posted has everything but the Orpheum on it.
