I was out shooting the moon a couple of nights ago and didn't see this until I downloaded the photos yesterday.

I know chromatic aberrations, etc., but this was beyond that. The other photos in the sequence are equally strange.

Pondering,

If that photo is a Jim Beam, then we are all under the influence by proxy.

Incredible photo, though. Joe, what were you seeing while taking the shots?

Thanks.
My goal was just to capture the moonlight on the water and none of this was visible in the viewfinder at the time. In other shots the moon had a Saturn-like ring emanating from it with a straight shaft of bright light pointing downward.

LA's a forensic photographic analyst, betcha he could tell ya.
My theory's that I bet that was taken on your digital camera and it's something to do with auto-focus and composition of the lens, it looks like the lens is creating chatoyancy.
Then I bet that was playing havoc with the image contrast algorithms in the software on top of everything else.
Sorry to take all the romance out of it.

How long was the shutter speed ? Odd things can happen on long exposures with a bright light in the frame.

Speaking of Pluto, here are the words to my new hit single. I will try to record it this weekend.

It delves into the love/hate relationship that Pluto has with the astronomers that discovered him and then kicked him to the curb.

Just Like Pluto

I feel just like Pluto, out here circling around
Used to feel like something special, but evidently I’m just one of the crowd
Reflecting light the best I can, trying to garner your attention
But it seems as if these days, all I get is condescension

(Chorus)

You built me up, then you put me down
Made me feel wanted, but now you're not around
You stroked my ego, now you're nowhere to be found
You built me up, then you put me down

Back when you discovered me, you rushed to tell all your friends
That you’d found something different, through your telescopic lens
But my composition was icy, and I was so far away
Too hard to get to me, out there in the Milky Way

Chorus

These days I'm relegated, to a lesser category
Just another hunk of flying junk, out there among the many
I would fly off if I could, achieve escape velocity
But I'm held tight in the grip, of your strong gravity

Chorus

Nice, Neal!

Hey, I thought "chatoyancy" was when you get annoyed with people rudely chatting on their cell phones. No?

Thanks, Chaz. First song I wrote specifically for 12-string.

The recent photos of Pluto suggest that the solar system is just a strange and wonderful place. Ice mountains? Whoa.
