And is it just me, or does a mahogany top resist dings much better than spruce? I routinely see examples of mahogany tops that are flawless at age 40. Not so much with spruce...

Wow.. I am jealous.. Those are both beautiful!! Jonesin' for an all hog, but not sure which one.. I know the D15 is supposed to be the more stripped down version of a D25, but I am not sure I do not like the look of that one better than the D25... Could just be the pictures..

Close, but the top one is a D-16!

The bottom D-25 has a bit of an interesting story behind it if y'all are interested.

The D15/16/17 series are great guitars IMHO. I've owned each of them over the years. I'm down to just my D 15 WG Red right now and that's out there for sale. Wouldn't be selling it but I have the D 25 BR that I seem to play more. Any way, I believe they are among the best bang for the buck guitars available regardless of manufacturer. Yours are really pretty too and I'd love to here the story on the D 25 as well.

Never heard of the D-16.
In the absence of Hans' Volume II the following info is from Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars:

D-15 (1983-1988; Mahogany Rush Series, mahogany top, arched mahogany back, no body binding, satin finish, starting 1987 gloss finish D-15HG)
D-16 (1983-1986; Mahogany Rush Series, mahogany top, arched mahogany back, no body binding, gloss finish, renamed D-15HG in 1987)
D-17 (1983-1986; Mahogany Rush Series, mahogany top, arched mahogany back, bound top and back, gloss finish)

June 1, 1984 pricelist:

D-15 $499.95
D-16 $540.00
D-17 $595.00

OK, here's the story on the D-25.

I always thought the "Guilds of Grot" Museum should have a D-25 as it's such a revered Guild model. I also thought it'd be nice to have one with a mahogany top as all my flat tops are spruce.

So I found one fairly cheap on ebay. Once I received it I realized why I might have gotten it so cheap. The action was pretty high and there was not a lot of saddle left. Uh-oh, time to break out the straight edge! I laid the straight edge on the fretboard and needless to say, the other end was no where near the bridge! As a matter of fact it was almost going in the sound hole!

Well, looks like it needs a neck reset.

Shortly after this I was contacted by Cordoba/Guild about lending them some instruments for reference. One of the models they were looking for was a D-25. As you know, I packed up three guitars and sent them off to Oxnard. I emailed them and said tongue in cheek; "If you need to take the D-25 apart to inspect it, please feel free to reset the neck while you're there!"

So the next thing I know Cordoba/Guild emails me and informs me that my D-25 has been sent to Chris Seeger in CT to have the neck reset! Are you kidding me? That's awesome!

A while later the guitar returns and it's beautiful! Neck reset, re-fretted and a new saddle! It plays like a dream!

The only negative the I have to say, (and I almost hate to write this and sound ungrateful, but it is part of the story) is that the guitar and case came back reeking of cigarette smoke. (At least I believe that's what it was.) I don't know if Chris is a smoker of not, but I'm still working on removing the odor.

Kudos to Cordoba/Guild for going the extra mile! But then again I'm pretty sure the two solid bodies I lent them went to Korea without consent. But since everything came back 100%, It's all good!
