I think I am going without a pick guard on this one, Tom, although I can still see the faint tan line from the original Guild pick guard, even after sanding off all of that crap.

Might change my mind. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, you don't really need a PG. I like guitars without 'em and I don't play that hard anyway.....

I'll bet the amber shellac will help cover the difference in color. :encouragement:

Just scored a Guild TRC on the Bay! One step closer to restoring this D-35's dignity.

Now, if I could just get my hands on a silkscreen logo.
Copy/trace one of your existing logos. Make stencil incorporating blue 3M frogtape for clean edges.
Appropriate shade of gold acrylic paint (won't react with anything on headstock) from hobby store.
Apply with roller for smooth finish.

Just curious - would that be Gryphon?
Was Gryphon ever actually authorized?
I don't recall, I just know I wanted to stay close to home when I was looking for advice about my F65ce a few years back and went to CB Perkins in Almaden Valley area.
So thought that's who he was talking about.
Authorized since early '60's.
Did the restoration of Greg Kihn's F-212 a few years back.
What I really wonder is if CORDOBA has actually renewed with them.
Last I heard they were stiil looking to recreate the authorized service network, it didn't just automatically transfer with the sale.
Of course I'm sure that could all be answered with a call.

No. CB Perkins in San Jose. They did a fine job on my D 35

Due to Guild being in limbo at the moment, no chance of getting one from them. They said they would make a few calls and let me know. Right now you have to get lucky and find a repair center that has one.

Maybe Hans Moust has one.

Cordoba has not yet established service network.

Just has a wash coat of amber shellac on it. Probably going to stop there.

Action at the 12th fret is perfect. Intonation is spot on. Plays easily and takes a capo well. The Guild tuners I found on the Bay work flawlessly. All she needs now is a TRC and a head stock logo.

And the tone? Wow. Warm, loud, responsive, a great finger picker. Best $200 guitar ever.

Neal, I cannot believe that is the same, effing guitar!!!! Wowser!

Oh, hey, take that terribly-placed strap button out while you're at it.

Again, wow!

What'd you do re: finish?

(never mind: wash coat of amber shellac. I should read your posts better. :) )

It looks like the first Guild dread ever built. The original. The mold.

Congrats Neal! I have been a believer in this one since the beginning and you have done a Wonderful Job Bringing her back! Couldn't be happier for you and the little D35 that could!:single_eye:

I also got most of the gunk out of the inside, which was actually the most labor-intensive part, because it all had to be done by hand. I used Goo Gone, sandpaper and a chisel to get into the nooks and crannies. Inexplicably, in addition to the finish sprayed in there, there was also drops of green and white paint, deep down in there.

Here are a few shots in sunlight before the tuners went on. The mahogany back is especially pretty.

Now I have to decide whether to risk the learning curve of routing out a place for the MOP Guild inlay I have on order. TRC is also on the way.

See if you can get a hold of an ebony faceplate from the factory. Maybe they even have some of the cocobolo ones that they used back in 2008 in Tacoma/Nashville.

:)

Awesome work, Neal.
