Always a tough time, Gary.

We have had Labs for well over 40 years, now. I'm getting to be the old man in this painting

Thanks all.

As for the auth messages, you shouldn't be getting them... turns out I linked to a private part of my webpage. That should now be fixed and you should now also be able to see a pic of Guinness in the snow:

Man... tough thread to read without getting upset... dang it

GAD, you and yours have given him the best life he could've had... I'm
sure he loves his family right back as only a dog can.
Great photo of Guiness in the snow... could any other dog but a Newfoundland
strike that pose?

My thoughts are with you...it's the price we pay for getting to share our lives with them for as long as we do...God bless you for giving him a loving home...

Sorry to hear. 12 years seems to be the average life span for Greyhounds but, isn't that quite long for a Newfie? We are presently nursing my wife's Beagle "Olive" to the rainbow. She"s somewhere around 15 years old. She spends her days out in the wooded area in our yard and we have to go out every couple hours to make sure she isn't stuck in the bushes. Most of the time she is just snoozing out doors. She can't see, hear or smell any more so we have to keep a close eye on her. We're probably a few days or weeks away from saying goodbye.

Yes 12 is pretty old for a Newf. Guinness is stone deaf and the only goid that's come from that is that he is no longer afraid of thunder or fireworks. We haven't kearned a thing thiugh, since we keep talking to him and calling and whistling for him.

He knows he's a good boy.

Hard stuff. We lost both of ours in the past two years (age 13 and 14). I miss them a lot.

Now we have cats. They're fine, but it's just not the same.

I'll have to go out in the yard and hunt for Olive shortly. Perhaps they'll meet on the other side.

Sorry to hear, GAD... man I know that's gotta hurt.

Was just playing with our shop dog earlier today giving him a good scratch...
can't help but feel happier when that dog walks into my office... heard something
on the radio today that said petting a dog lowers your blood pressure... he
knows he's loved & appreciated around here, even with all the noise and
mess and scrambling around... his name is Ranger, he's a Plott hound, looks
just like this one but bigger and heavier.

Crap! Knowing it was coming doesn't make it any easier. There's not much we can say that hasn't already been said. But we all know he had a happy life with you and your family. At least he is at peace now.

You'll meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.

You did the right thing although it always hurts and never gets easier.

Good thoughts for Guinness and your family
