Hey all. Check out this Richie Havens video from the Bitter End (Handsome Johnny). What model Guild is he playing? It looks like a maple jumbo. Could it be an F50? Check 'er out:

It looks like a F50 with the Arched Maple back and dual pickguards. The dual pickguard were available as a special option from the factory. If the video is truly from 1967 like it says in the title it is a F50 no doubt, A Hoboken made F50 at that. The fingerboard inlays are what gives it away. If it was a video from the 80's I would say it could be a JF65 which was the same thing as an F50 but the JF65's weren't made until the eighties. The JF30's also came along in the 80's but they only had dot markers for fretboard inlays. The guitar in the video clearly has the Triangle in Block inlays that are standard issue on the F50's. Hope this helps.

Yep it's an F50, it's got the blonde sides of a maple body (as opposed to an F50R).
Don't know if he had more than one, but there're a couple of great pics from the same period on Getty Images.
One's with Clapton (which has made me wonder if that's how he discovered F50s)
but the file formats aren't compatible with the board software so I can only post links to 'em:

Heck, to see the one with Clapton ya gotta just go to Getty Images, now:

Ya gotta be patient with Getty, it takes a while to load.
Dual pickguards? One of Richie's trademarks, but it was real easy for anybody to order 'em on any dread or jumbo.
He was tough on tops.

Aha! Here's one I can post that I've never seen before, either!

Richie-Havens-5909e61b3df78c9283bb310b.jpg

Can tell by the background/ beard it must be same photo session as the pic with Clapton, backstage at Cafe au GoGo, '67.
Sometime after that meeting this pic of Clapton appeared on the cover of the '68 Guild catalog:

Better yet, what's going on with the bridge pins on low & high E strings (or in Richie's case, low & high D strings :smug: ) ??

Right, I remember that but he doesn't have the date of the shoot, was it before or after he met Richie at the AuGoGo in '67?
Did he approach Guild or did they approach him?
That's why I made the comment in post #12:

OR did you mean I thought the Cafe AuGoGO session was the same session as the Clapton endorsement shoot?
No I didn't mean that at all.
All I said was: Clapton obviously was exposed to an F50 before he was on the cover of the '68 catalog.
For all we know it could be Clapton's F50 that he's letting Ritchie try out at the AuGoGo in '67.
WE'll probably never know, but Richie was already a dedicated Guild user so I'm betting it's his.

Yes, in fact, the formal name of the band was "The Cream" until it was shortened by popular usage.

Bonus points if you can tell us where producer Felix Pappalardi listed on the 45 wound up next.

...... and it has the double pickguards that Clapton's F-50 didn't have!
