That really does deserve some sort of a "best of" award.

Just look at the tidy, diagonal/parallel text on the many wraps of tape on the case lid. Remarkable.

It looks like an Egyptian mummy, only in the shape of a guitar case.

And inside are just enough chunks of 2x4 to simulate the weight of a guitar.

Thought I heard some eerie music playing softly somewhere last night... ah,
I recognized the tune soon enough, it was coming from.... the Guitar Packing Hall of Shame!

EPISODE 5 - it begins. This makes the creative packer in the first post
look like a genius, LOL

Ooh - good one. Actually looks like it might be well protected, at least. Huh - I seem to be feeling optimistic. Maybe I should see a doctor...

Oh, this thread is so painful, and wryly funny to read through. Bonneville, you are like a magnet for bad packing. Are these really all guitars that came to you? Are you buying crazy amounts of guitars?

Wow, it's just crazy!

Chaz, I buy something once a month - most of the time. But sometimes
there's some kind of weird harmonic / cosmic Guild alignment where I stumble
upon what could be described as a preponderance of serendipitous selling situations
too good to pass up.

In all honestly, once I get past the annoyance / dismay,
it's kind of fascinating and funny (to me) to see how individual sellers
respond to a real-life, somewhat higher-stakes version of
the junior-high science class egg toss competition. Not that it doesn't
totally suck if a sweet guitar gets trashed - it does indeed.
But I gotta find the humor in it or I'll jump out a window or something.

GAD - appreciate the optimism... :devilish:

Let's dig a little deeper and see how the seller's origami skills worked out
on this one. How many boxes were used here, any guesses?

Just in!
A variant of the stitch-it-together-using-minimal-tape technique.
Some paper crunched into the top and bottom, but
nothing on the sides. Guitar was iIn a gig bag, no less o_O
No additional packing inside the gig bag, either.
Any time something like this rolls in, time to break out the camera
and start snapping away - you never know how a situation like
this is going to turn out. If your hands are already getting clammy
with that growing sense of dread, and your stomach is already sinking like a stone...
welcome back to the Guitar Packing and Shipping Hall of Shame!

When we were working on the Ampeg book, we had a lot of amps and instruments shipped to us. One was this Baby Bass (yes, that's me when I had hair):

GREGG.JPG

I can't find a photo of it, but when it arrived (undamaged), it was wrapped in many, many yards (meters) of bubble wrap with a shipping label stuck on it. I am not exaggerating when I say that it looked liked a giant kid's inflatable punching toy.

Walrus, I'm glad you asked!

Sneak peak photo attached.
No apparent damage that I can find.
Only bit of oddness I've observed so far is the neck
pickup seems to be positioned very low.
Strings are old.
Otherwise appears to be a well kept and little-used
DeArmond S-73 (set neck, MIK)

Seller shipped USPS on August 10, arrived at my
local post office August 20.

I'm feeling lucky - maybe go buy a lottery ticket today ;)

I seen some particularly bad shipping jobs in my years of collecting and took those bad examples as what not to do when I finally had the courage to ship off guitars. The worst ones I gotten so far was a Danelectro I bought off reverb that took the seller nearly a week to ship and all they did was stuff cardboard in the box and a wadded up news paper. As you can imagine this isn’t adequate enough to be shipped within the state much less from Michigan to Texas. Seller ended up getting that one back and was combative about giving a refund. I also received a DOD pedal in a noodle box and the seller didn’t bother removing all the noodles as 3 months later I realized something was rattling inside. Was a twisty noodle! Also received a pedal in a box wrapped in someone’s wifebeater that smelled of rotten mop water.
