I note a curious (to the western mind) lack of expository detail about who the gold belonged to or where it was headed........yeah methinks somebody's head might be rolling right about now..... :glee:

Ralph

"The local YakutiaMedia news website cited witnesses as saying that they spotted gold bars, as well as diamonds and bars of platinum across the runway."

Diamond in a coal mine, baby.

Those were not gold bars but gold concentrate ingots weighing 20 kg each.

That was the very plane, an AN-12B with registration RA-11130:

According to newspaper Siberian Times, the cargo was reported to be owned by Chukota Mining and Geological company; 75 per cent of the private company is owned by Canadian Kinross Gold.
Some bars of gold have dropped from the aircraft as far as 26 kilometers from the airport!
