Oh, I thought "Soft Machine" and "Steely Dan" had a whole different connection, more to do with things I cannot post here on LTG... :jaded:

walrus

"the Soft Machine" is actually a term coined for the human body and title of one of his novels..."Steely Dan" was the name of a notorious device introduced in the novel Naked Lunch and which I connected to before for "Good Vibrations" and the "electrical banana" lyric in "Mellow Yellow".
There was, btw, even a Steely Dan II, which replaced the original after an unfortunate, er, usage overload....
:biggrin-new:

Since my post "Baby Elephant Walk - Henry Mancini" - # 3563 was cruelly ignored and nobody seemed to notice or care - "What? Me worry?"

The Monkey And The Elephant - Burl Ives
Gimmie Gimmie Good Lovin' - Crazy Elephant
And now back to our regularly scheduled thread:
"Jungle Gym at the Zoo"- Elephant's Memory
From here, before they hooked up with one Dr. Winston O'Boogie:

Oh I so badly want to cite Norman Greenbaum, but I'll post

"Spirits in the Material World"-the Police, instead.

Now, can anybody connect the Police to Steely Dan?

Except for their sometimes jazz-oriented style, I got nothin'...

Is this song title too obvious? I'm using it anyway...

Andy Summers was in the Soft Machine for about 3 months in summer of '68, before joining the Animals.

Nah, whatever works, works.
"Truckin'"-the Grateful Dead
( lyric "Livin' on reds, vitamin C, and cocaine")

Gah! I'm embarrassed, I knew that, but it did not come to me! Andy Summers is one of my favorite guitarists. I read Summers' biography "One Train Later" - highly recommended read, BTW, great stories and very amusing.

Never heard of such a thing.
Sting's given name was "Sumner" not "Summers", so doubt it highly.

Right, no relation.

Capisce! Good one!

"The Wolf" - The Cult

Shoot, this is almost too obvious but I unabashedly love the album Seven and the Ragged Tiger by this band, and at least in part because this tune's not on it:

"Hungry Like the Wolf"-Duran Duran

Heck, at least it's got great notoriety creds.
Anybody remember Pamela Smart?

And continuing a running theme: bonus points for anybody who can tell us where Dun Duran got their name from.

Oh, this one I think I know - a character in "Barbarella", right? Had the same name or close to it. I can get into Duran Duran myself - I learned "Ordinary World" a few years ago - great song for acoustic guitar!
