Hello

When young I used to cut them short. Then I was poking my fingers on them resulting with bleeding and pain. Then I started leaving them long but coiling them so they do not offend you anymore.

I'm not so much "offended" as I am concerned. I guess safety glasses would fit in the case with a good capo.
And of course, the bottom line is...to each his own. :courage:

I at least used to coil them up at the headstock. Not sure why, thought it looked cool I guess. Used to stash my lit cigarettes up there too, between 2 strings.

When I was first learning guitar my cranky old teacher *yelled* at me for leaving a string like that. You could lose your damn eye. Is that what you want! Don't ever let me see you with strings like that again!

To this day I can't leave them for more than a few minutes while I'm tuning up. I've worn out wire cutters because I change strings so often.

Howdy

I waded through first page of 11 total - yes - it was funny so far. - but seriously - curling them with a key or other metal object is fast and leaves them safe for both eyes and fingertips. :watermelon:

I couldn't care less what other people do. I'm quite Libertarian that way. Just keep the pointy bits away from my eyes and don't force your wacky string curling religion on me and we're all good. :tongue-new:

I've always clipped mine - I would impale the filter end on the clipped end of the D string, and if the song was long enough, it might rain ashes all over you.

Then I started using the Stephen Stills cigarette-holding method - it would leave a funky and smelly brown stain between your third and pinkie fingers, but at least it didn't rain hot ash on your head stock and fret hand:

I like to coil my string ends with the edge of a coin. These guys all went for the casual look too!

In the Days of My Youth, someone told me that cutting bass strings damaged the strings. I suspect that is a combination of urban myth and using strings that are too long for the instrument but it means I always coil my strings and never cut.
