I may have the opportunity to buy a Martin D-45 for a ridiculously low price.
In order to get it, I would have to sell my Guild D-55.

As much as I like the D-55, this Martin is a guitar that I never thought I would be able to own.
I almost hope that the deal will not happen.

Well if I learned anything it would be go for it or you could buy a Blueridge much cheaper lol

Anyway there’s always a will and a way for my plan which is find a way to get the Martin see if really says sell the D55 if so then put her up for sale then you recover money spent on the Martin.
I’m a firm believer in using PayPal credit if applicable 6 months zero interest.

Won’t work on private sales though hmmm anyway still a way ,you’ll find it ;)

I could pay cash for the Martin but I would have to put the money back in the bank when I sold the Guild. [retirement]
I haven't seen the Martin yet so I don't know the year or condition.
A friend is looking at the Martin first and if he doesn't get it, he will let me know.

Do an in-hand assessment of the Martin before making any decision on the Guild.

Best to be absolutely sure about which one is the better guitar for you.

Ow! Ow! Ow! An affordable D-45 is indeed temptation incarnate.

I must say, I've liked my Guilds more than my Martins. But I've never had a D-45 or a D-55.

Play the Martin. Then decide.

With the Martin in hand, let your hands/fingers and your EARS make the decision.
Temptation comes in a number of guises...:courage:

What a beautiful post. Couldn't say it any better.

TMG, keep us posted. I'd love to hear what you do, even if it means saying goodbye to Guild's flagship.

I'm waiting for my buddy to let me know more about the Martin.
He may get it or it could already be sold.
The good news is that if I don't get the Martin, I still have my D-55.
It's a win win deal to me.

In reality, I almost hope it doesn't happen.
I love my D-55 and would have a hard time letting it go.

Martin D-45s. Sometimes, they sound great, but the dirty little secret is that if the tops weren't weighed down with all that mother of pearl inlay, they would certainly sound better.

Use your ears big time, brother.

I am so blessed.
Still waiting to hear if the Martin D-45 is available.
Last night I got out my Martin and my Guild and spend an hour doing an A/B with them.

I don't need any other guitar to be happy.
These guitars are fantastic.

I hope that the D-45 is gone and with it the temptation.

My Guild D-55 is a 2005 Tacoma build.
This is the one that I got used in 2008.
It had only been played for less than 1/2 a year by a high school student that got it for a class.
When he sold it to me, it still had the original strings on it and the plastic pick guard cover was still on it.

It took a year or two for it to open up and it keeps getting better and better.

My Guild D-55 is a 2005 Tacoma build.

I think there was something special going on during Guild's short stay in Tacoma, and it carried over to New Hartford.

This has a couple of outcomes, all good:

1). You end up with a ridiculously great D-45 because it would have to be that good to be better than your D-55.

2). You will prove to yourself how absurdly great your D-55 is, since a Martin D-45 couldn't pry it from your fingers.

Either way, you win.

I had an interesting experience with my mandolin this week. It had a slight buzz that I couldn't identify, so took it into Gryphon for a setup. Turned out it was very minor and I waited for them to do their magic so wandered into the mandolin area and played everything under $5000, some really nice mandolins. The repair guy brought me my Silverangel to test, and you know what? While they were all different, I doubt I'd trade my mandolin for anything I played that day. Add to the heard? Sure, but fancy doesn't add to tone. Sometimes what you've got is good. So my used $1400 A style is a keeper. I'd never done a side to side comparison before.

This is easy.
A D55 is ten more than a D45.
Why even bother?

THIS =====^

I could see adding a Martin D-45, if I could afford it, of course (which means the price really would have to be ridiculous!)

But why trade away a D-55 to get it? They're both in the same sound spectrum. And, it's not like playing a D-55 makes you suffer.

GAS is a subtle and brain-weakening disease, that's for sure. I've been there. And if you choose the Martin, I'll join everyone else saying: "Pictures!"

But I'm rootin' for the D-55...

The Winner Is Guild D-55!

We have all heard the expression that if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't true.
My buddy got back with me today and found out that the Martin is a D-41 not a D-45.
The asking price is $3,500.00 not $2,500.00.
Now that is still a good price for a D-41 but not for me.

Now I'm going to get off the computer and go play my Guild.
Live is good!

Sounds like a great plan! I'd do the same, but I already played an hour this AM, and have jam tonight... don't want to start jam with sore fingers!
Life is Guild?
