How do the d-40 from 1987 era sound? Is it a brighter D-18 kind of tone? Are they a heavier build or is it scallop bracing rather than straight ?

Neck is thin C shape? There is a sunburst one in nice shape near me, seller wants 1100 firm.

Thanks

Looking hard for - d40 or DV6. A mahogany Guild is what I want. I am no help as far as helping you with how a 1987 D40 sounds but I agree you are after a great guitar.

I'm sure you realize that any answer you get is subjective. That said , I had a 1985 d-40 that I often played with a friend who had a 1967 Martin D-18. To my ear the D-40 was not brighter over all but rather a deeper, richer tone. The only thing that was even close to brighter was the bass E string which always seemed dull and somewhat muted on the D-18 while it rang out more on the D-40.
