Hi all,

I scored a wonderful 61' T50 over the weekend and the tuners are a bit tough to turn due to age I'm sure. I have a 66' T50 as well and love the replacement tuners on it but can't figure out what they are and if they are a direct swap with the 61's?

Any advice info is appreciated. In my research I'm guessing the 66' are Waverly tuners but I don't see any brand stamps.

Here's my 66' on top and 61' which I want to replace on bottom:

Here's a link to the StewMac website and their page for replacement tuning machines. The ones on your '66 T-50 look similar to the "Economy 3 on-a-plate Tuners" in the listing. StewMac does a good job of showing an illustration with the measurements for the "string post holes" and the "mounting screw holes". But often it is difficult to find a direct "drop in" replacement.

The tuners on your '61 T-50 appear to be Grover Sta-Tites. These tuning machines were used by many manufacturers in the late 50's and early 60's on mid-priced instruments. I don't know if they ever made a direct "drop in" replacement for these tuning machines... but they should!

No, not Grover. Those are Waverly 3-on-a-plate tuners on the T-50. They were also available with white buttons.
Hans Moust ( www.guitarsgalore.nl ) in the Netherlands might be able to help MoJoe.

From StewMac those look good to me, even if they are not a 100% replacement (click on the bright nickel version, the last picture):
