Reynolds' career also is marked by the movies he didn't make. Harrison Ford, Jack Nicholson and Bruce Willis surely were grateful after he turned down the roles of Han Solo, retired astronaut Garrett Breedlove and cop John McClane in Star Wars, Terms of Endearment and Die Hard, respectively.

Yeah, he was great. He had 4 movies playing at the same time in theaters in '78

For some great later period Burt, check out Paul Thomas Anderson's 1997 film Boogie Nights. Burt plays a porn mogul who makes a star out of the main character, played by Mark Wahlberg in the role that let him ditch his "Marky Mark" persona, but who is then forced to adapt to changing tastes as the '70s give way to the '80s. It's a pretty dark film, and Burt is excellent in it.

yes, i would not watch that movie again, but I did watch it when it came out, and Burt is excellent.
bummer he was up against Robin Williams for Good Will Hunting, i think Robin was a touch better, but that might have been the content.

still would have preferred burt for han Solo

:)

Growing up in the '70's, Burt was pretty big - loved his movies! RIP.

Or how about his impersonation of a fur rug in the very first issue of Playgirl?

I enjoyed Burt's movies well enough, but as far as those roles, I don't think he would have done them as well as the actors who landed them. I just can't see it.

RIP Burt. You had a good run! :applouse:

Well, anyone who had a shot at Loni Anderson will always be o.k. in my book. I loved the roles he played. Deliverance was a classic.

Some of the movies he said he turned down just wouldn't have worked. Michael Corleone in The Godfather ? Marlon Brando was going to quite over that choice. Al Pacino was a better fit.
