Note that unlike many modern pedal tuners, this unit does not mute the signal while tuning so your audience can enjoy your tuning almost as much as your bandmates.
Especially if you’re Ravi Shankar

Jeez, somebody really does have to much time on their hands!

As always an amusing and informative read.

Do you have the box?

I saw Ravi Shankar once - he was the opening act for Robin Trower at the Seattle Coliseum, in '74 as I recollect.

I've added a couple of paragraphs at the end of the introduction mostly because I am now in the possession of a practically new-in-box example of the Guild Accupitch 440 including receipt and instructions which is in no way a result of Grot mocking me for his having the box. Not at all.

Glad I could be of inspiration!

Consider this: $90 in 1981 would be over $250 today. For an electronic tuner the likes of which we can get for next to nothing nowadays. Not a Guild tuner of course...

I have one of the new Guild tuners. It’s awful. Might have to write that one up too

I know. Having it activate when it’s clamped on, which means you have to take it off as soon as you’re finished tuning, is really inconvenient.

Love to see a review of the modern one.

Not sure I understand. The clip on tuners I use need to be manually turned on. Some need a manual off, the others are on a timer. Is there something out there were clipping it on also turns it on? I learned to tune by ear so I have always avoided leaving a tuner clipped on while I am playing but i understand people not like me have their reasons :)

Yes, to turn it on, you clip it to the headstock. A solution for a problem that didn’t exist, and is a worse idea.
