Yup! Couldn't agree more. I've actually toyed with the idea of buying a SFIV and putting in full-size humbuckers. Either HB-1's or something else. Keeps the playability of a guild, but much different sonically than my SFV. I would never do anything like that to an instrument that is higher end or vintage/no longer in production. Which is why it's so hard to find vintage but unmodded guitars.
