My Luthier finally is settled into his new place. I'm taking my D40C up this week to get it worked on. Going to get the neck reset (that probably has been needed from the moment it left Westerly). Also going to have him look at the compression on the flattop around the rosette. Hopefully nothing serious. Assuming he doesn't tell me that the movement in the wood make the guitar irreparable -- and I don't expect him to -- I'm going to have a couple of other things at the same time.
Last year I had the frets reworked. Now the neck reset... and
Options (Some of these I almost certainly will do):
1) Replace the Saddle with new bone. (The saddle will need to be replaced. I can't really find out what the original was made out of. I don't think its bone, but every online seller seems to say it is. Regardless, I'll be getting a new bone saddle. Unless someone wants to pitch something better, this seems a gimmie...)
2) Get it changed to a Compensated saddle???
3) Replace nut with Bone (again, not sure what's on it now. Stuart seemed to think it wasn't bone, but I'm not sure. Also not really convinced my ear would hear a difference in that if it isn't.)
4) Add strap pin to neck.
5) Replace Fishman Matrix Under the saddle pickup. I have ALWAYS hated this pickup. Typical UTS quack. I get around it with the use of a Fishman Aura pedal, which sounds fine -- just not exactly like my Guild. This could be my chance to move to something more natural sounding. Any ideas???
6) Move the input jack. The way the Fishman was installed is by replacing the end strap pin with an input jack. That's OK. But I hate that location for it. It's always a pain when putting it in a floor stand. I am thinking of having him move it to the underside -- like where it is on my Savoy. He says it can be done, tho he will need to reinforce it.
7) If we do 6 the next question is: Do I keep both jacks? Kind of weird but maybe add a second picup like a K&K mini? IDK.
8) Any other ideas?
